ABOUT US
We are a group of enthusiastic members of the recently-founded English-speaking Toastmasters club in Playa Del Carmen.
We welcome everyone with or without public speaking experience, and our main intention is to boost your confidence and communication skills.
Toastmasters International established 100 years ago (1924) and now has active clubs and members throughout the world.

We are proud to be the Yucatán’s Peninsula’s First English-speaking Toastmasters club!
What's Involved?
Our meetings follow a standard Internationally proven recipe.
We always aim to start and finish promptly, so please aim to arrive in good time.
Generally, the Club President will welcome everyone, and then introduce a Toastmaster for the evening.
The roles for Toastmaster and all meeting roles are revolved among the paid members who volunteer to take responsibility for one of the tasks.
So the Toastmaster will usually invite you to introduce yourself along with a thought on the theme of the week.
Then the Toastmaster will introduce the General Evaluator who will introduce the rest of the team to share what their roles entail.
This will include the Table Topics Master who will invite some attendees to speak for up to two minutes on a theme that is announced on the spot.
After a short comfort-break, we will usually hear from two member prepared speeches, followed by some evalution feedback and summaries from each of the roles.

Isaac Mancilla
Club President
Isaac joined Toastmasters in April 2024, bringing a deep commitment to helping others find their voice.
His passion is backed by extensive experience, beginning his coaching journey at 18 and earning certifications from Cocrear and FLAPCO.
He has since led hundreds of workshops and coached countless individuals in leadership, emotional intelligence, and communication.
Originally from Puebla, Isaac now lives in Playa del Carmen, where he applies his people skills daily in the tourism industry.
As a bilingual speaker, he enjoys building cultural bridges through the power of storytelling.
As President, Isaac’s vision is to create a people-centered club where every member feels supported, challenged, and seen.
Nick Soto
VP Education
As a rational thinker who thrives on logic, I've always made calculated moves—from my business management degree in Peru to a global career at sea.
That journey eventually led me to Playa del Carmen, where I pursue passions like carpentry and freediving.
Recognizing that strong communication is crucial for success, I joined Toastmasters as a strategic step to improve my interpersonal skills.
It was a calculated leap outside my comfort zone, and the results have been immediate and clear.
My confidence has grown, my delivery is more precise, and my ability to connect with others has already begun to open the doors I was aiming for.

Before joining this club, every speech felt terrifying.
But Toastmasters provided a safe place to practice, and slowly, the fear gave way to confidence.
Now, as Vice President of Membership, my mission is simple: to welcome you to that same supportive environment.
I’m here to help you begin your own transformation, find the voice you never knew you had, and discover the incredible leader within you.
Sofia Huerta Femat

Sofia believes that our greatest growth happens just outside our comfort zone.
This belief, cultivated by living in different places, has given her a deep appreciation for new experiences and diverse perspectives.
Her journey of exploration naturally led her to Toastmasters, where she channels that passion into her role as Vice President of Public Relations.
Her mission is to connect with the community and share how Toastmasters empowers its members to find their voice, build confidence, and enrich their lives.
George Sanchez
Sergeant-at-Arms
With the ambition of becoming a world-renowned speaker, George is one of our club's most dedicated members.
He has already proven his natural talent and humour on stage as one of the star performers in our humorous speech competition.
A sales professional by trade and a Playa resident since 2019, George is proud to call this community home.
Beyond the stage and his work, his other great passion is cooking, a skill he lovingly inherited from his grandmother.
Keith Commins
Treasurer
A Dubliner with a colourful past and a gifted storyteller.
Former Life: DJ and illegal rave promoter.
Current Obsession: Building sales funnels and nerding out on copywriting.
International Incident: Once held hostage overnight by a troop of monkeys in Gibraltar.
Special Skill: Can clear a dance floor with his salsa moves.
Life's Motto: Still hasn't found what he's looking for.
Mike Berry
Secretary
With a Toastmasters journey spanning 25 years (started 2000), Mike’s enthusiasm and experience is foundational to our club.
Mike began in Edinburgh and has since been invited to speak on global stages, most notably at 'Millionaire Minds' events alongside stars from the UK's popular Dragons' Den program (UK version of Shark Tank)
As our founding Club President, Mike was instrumental in bringing the Toastmasters community to Playa del Carmen.
He continues to foster local talent by hosting the PDCYES group, a monthly event that showcases two speakers sharing their knowledge, skills, and experience.

Big Sexy BerryWhite is, in a word, an entertainer.
After a 14-year career performing in Las Vegas, the Southern California native embraced a new chapter in 2023, traveling the world with his amazing and colourful wife.
His diverse talents range from the stage to the page—he is an actor, improviser, DJ, and emcee, as well as a poet, playwright, and parody songwriter.
He also shares his passions as a teacher, coach, mentor, and even a Mahjong instructor.
You can follow his adventures weekly on his podcast, Big Sexy Digital Nomad.
A community builder guided by kindness and imagination, Big Sexy is a loving husband, a loyal friend, and is rarely seen without his two signature trademarks: a winning smile and a splash of purple.
